VIRGINIA HIGHLAND (or VaHi) is a neighborhood of Atlanta, developed in the early 20th century as a streetcar suburb. It gets its name from the intersection of Virginia Avenue and North Highland Avenue; seven distinct commercial “villages” alternate with short, walkable blocks of charming bungalows and other historic houses built in the 1910s-1930s. With its sidewalk cafes, bistros, restaurants, bars, galleries, and shops, it has become a destination for locals and tourists. In 2011, readers of Creative Loafing voted Virginia Highland “best overall neighborhood”, and in June 2011, Atlanta Magazine designated Virginia Highland “favorite neighborhood overall”. In 2012 readers of Creative Loafing voted VaHi “best walkable neighborhood”.
