North American Properties is planning a radical redesign of Colony Square and expects to finish in time for its 50th anniversary in 2018. The project is led by New York-based architects Beyer Blinder Belle with the assistance of Atlanta-based Lord Aeck Sargent.
Located at one of Midtown’s busiest corners, the renewed Colony Square will have an outdoor pedestrian plaza surrounded by a theater, restaurants, retail spaces, and a new building at the northern edge along Peachtree Street. The current two high-rise office towers, the hotel tower, and the residential tower should have a more urban feel than the current interior food court and mall configuration offer.
When first announced, the project received public support, according to a North American Properties press release that reported on more than 200 interviews conducted to collect community feedback. Work should start soon and be on-going until 2018.
