Certifications and Designations
REALTORS® can have an alphabet soup of letters after their names, but consumers don’t often know what all those letters mean. Here’s a quick look at the certifications and designations I’ve earned and what they mean to you, as a consumer.
REALTOR® – This means I am a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and bound by a strict Code of Ethics. Not all real estate agents are REALTORS® – only those who choose to be dues-paying members of the National Association of REALTORS® can use the REALTOR® name and R symbol. I am proud to be a member and to uphold the Code of Ethics in my business practice every day.
CRS – Certified Residential Specialist – The Council of Residential Specialists awards the CRS designation to REALTORS® who complete intensive classroom courses as well as a required number of transactions; CRSs make up the top 3% of REALTORS® in the nation. “Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) agents have proven record of success—3X success, in fact. Compared to the average REALTOR®, CRS agents have been in the business nearly three times longer, have three times the number of annual transactions, and generate three times the amount of gross sales.”
ABR – Accredited Buyer Representative – This designation is designed for REALTORS® who work with buyer-clients and is earned by taking a comprehensive two-day class focused on staying on top of the issues and trends in successfully representing homebuyers.
CDPE – Certified Distressed Property Expert – Helping homeowners in financial distress who can no longer afford to stay in their homes has become a big part of my reale state business. Navigating the short sale process can be confusing and difficult – with the volume of paperwork and tricky steps to follow, as well as a labyrinth of negotiators, asset managers, and closing department representatives to deal with. Having a trained, knowledgeable, and experienced CDPE agent on your side means you have someone fighting for you and explaining the process, every step of the way. For homeowners facing market hardships, it can mean the difference between a successful short sale and foreclosure.
e-PRO® – e-PRO® Internet Certified REALTOR® – Technology plays an increasingly important role in the marketing of your home in today’s market. Being an e-PRO means staying abreast of tech trends and tools that can help with selling your home or assisting you as a buyer.
Military Relocation Professional (MRP) – The National Association of REALTORS®’ newest certification, the MRP, focuses on helping REALTORS® prepare to provide real estate services—at any stage in the service member’s military career—that meet the needs of this niche market and win future referrals. Hone in your knowledge and skills for working with active duty military buyers and sellers, as well as veterans with the NAR’s Military Relocation Professional Certification. Maura was honored to be able to not only earn this certification but help to create the course with NAR as Lead Instructor and Subject Matter Expert.
