BUTTERFLY FESTIVAL – 8/20/16
Dunwoody Nature Center, at 5343 Roberts Drive, will present two huge butterfly tents, each filled with hundreds of live butterflies. Members may preview at 9 am; general admission starts at 10 am and runs until 4 pm.Additional activities include live animal encounters, a Birds of Prey show, games, rafts, educational booths, music, food, and drinks. Rain or shine. Since there is no parking at the Nature Center, park at N. Atlanta Church of Christ (5676 Roberts Drive); shuttles will run all day.
Admission: adults, $10; children, $5. Handicapped accessible.
HOT RODS ON MAIN CRUISE-IN – 8/26/16
From to 9 pm on Friday, Aug. 26, Downtown Douglasville will host this event to showcase the area’s coolest muscle, classic, and other high-performance vehicles at 6695 Church Street. Admission is free; music and vendors will add to the fun.
PIGS & PEACHES BBQ FESTIVAL – 8/26-27/16
From 6 pm – 10 pm on Friday and 10 am – 10 pm on Saturday, the City of Kennesaw will celebrate barbeque, music (on three stages), and good times at Adams Park, 2753 Watts Drive. Over 200 vendors and exhibitors will be on site, and children can enjoy the Kid Zone, with inflatables, jumpers, and other attractions. Featured events are a Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned competition (a Georgia state Championship event), Backyard BBQ Anything Butt contest, Peach Dessert Contest, and Kids’ Que Cook-off. Contest winners will win over $16,000 in cash and prizes. There will be fireworks at 9:30 pm on Saturday. Admission is free.
IMAGINE MUSIC FESTIVAL – 8/26-28/16
This electronic dance music festival was voted a Top 300 festival in the world by Fest300 and Top Ten Emerging Music Festivals by USA Today. Multiple stages will host the world’s top electronic musicians, bands, DJs, and cirque-style performances. General admission for the three-day event is $99-199; exact location is TBA. Suitable for ages 18+.
ALPHARETTA ART IN THE PARK – 8/27/16
Old Milton Park (at Main Street and Milton Avenue) will become a handcrafted-only artist market from 9 am – 4 pm with as many as 35 artists exhibiting and offering their work for sale. Rain or shine, enjoy the woodwork, pottery, metal work, jewelry creations, photography, watercolors, handmade children’s clothing, oil soaps and lotions, mosaic art, and more. Admission is free.
FESTIVAL PEACHTREE LATINO 2016 – 8/28/16
The largest family and multicultural event in the Southeastern United States integrates cultures and traditions from the Latino community in Atlanta. Admission is free for the event in Piedmont Park from 9 am to 8 pm. Experience authentic Latin dancers, an outstanding musical lineup, sports activities, amazing food, arts and crafts for children, and hundreds of exhibitors.
